Just a question, was the intend of that email to ask the board to be the key note speakers? Or for help in finding one?

email below:
Dear openSUSE board,

greetings!!

With immense pleasure, this is to inform you that we, Team India, with the support of openSUSE.Asia committee working hard to make openSUSE.Asia summit a success.
We request you to accept our invitation as a keynote speaker for openSUSE.Asia virtual summit 2021, Faridabad India. Also, we are excited to know who would be our keynote this year.

Best regards,
Shobha Tyagi

I clearly read "We request you to accept our invitation as a keynote speaker" as a polite way to invite the board. :-)

Yeah but then I read, who will be our keynote? So that kind of blew me off..

Ahh, as some background for the new people, they ask someone from the board to do one of the two keynotes. Generally we can use the Board travel support budget to send 1-2 board members to the conference, there was one year before I was on the board where no board members could go and so Doug gave the keynote in our place but given its a virtual conference this year we probably have plenty of choices.

Thanks for the clarification, I personally can’t make it during the conference as I’ll be on holidays then..

I will work with the organizers to schedule keynote at a time that won't kill me, timezone-wise.

I've sent the email to the organizers, now I'm waiting for response.

So there's no time that won't kill me, so @simotek and I are going to pre-record the talk and he's going to be around for the live chat (along with maybe @GeraldPfeifer or other members of the Board in Europe).

The talk I've submitted to them is:

Title: Inspiring Success and Contribution by Example

Abstract:
The openSUSE Board is the group that guides the openSUSE Project, in
theory. But in practice, the Project mainly guides itself through its
users and contributors, and some of those contributors elect to become
more involved in the project governance. This iteration of the Board
has made it a focus to drive increased engagement in the Project by
enabling better means of communicating and organizing, and like
everything else in openSUSE, we're leading by doing it for Board
matters itself. Neal and Simon will talk about this effort and what it
means for the Project, and what the results have been so far.

I've recorded my segment of the talk and given it to @simotek to stitch together with his part. He'll submit the final result to the conference organizers.

I understand the event has happened and the keynote took place, so
closing this ticket.

Neal, Simon, Axel - anything to share from the event / Q&A session?

There were no real questions after the recording played in the session, so it ended early.
