Apologies, Maurizio. Sadly there doesn't appear a way for me to
fix this (similar to how Bugzilla doesn't allow editing)?

The minutes from our first meeting (19/01/22)

Present: Knurpht, Emily, Mau, Bill, Attila

Points of discussion:

Platforms - current point of focus:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter - not really possible to moderate
  • Telegram - way too cluttered, how to moderate all official groups?
  • Discord
  • Matrix
  • IRC
  • Mailing lists - ask the Heroes for a list of moderators here
  • forums-o-o
  • Reddit

Appointing moderation representatives

  • There should be 2 people from each platforms
  • The platforms should elect their representatives
  • These reps ideally participate in moderation meetings. Meetings are beneficial to see and meet people "face-to-face",
  • Suggested: Meetings to take place at 12pm UTC,

Create a mailing list

https://code.opensuse.org/board/tickets/issue/27
- Yes, contact Heroes!

Moderator accountability across platforms

https://code.opensuse.org/board/tickets/issue/9
- create document of best practices, training, general guidelines based off the Guiding principles.
- Guidelines on how to moderate?
- deescalate a situation instead of banning immediately
- resolve conflicts between members
- When to ban?
- Spamming,
- sharing pornography,
- phishing etc.

Conflict resolution board/conflict committee/Conflict club

  • Committee reports to the Board,
  • The committee keep records on conflicts and how the resolution went,
  • The committee handles conflict resolutions between individuals,
  • The Board to support the Conflict Resolution Committee,
  • The Board steps in when the Committee can't resolve a conflict or the conflict is between two projects.

Next steps:

  • Start a document detailing what we are doing and keep the community updated
  • Reach out to the Heroes to set up the moderation mailing list
  • Ask the Heroes for a list of moderators on the mailing lists
  • Next meeting on 26/01,Wed 1pm UTC

you also missed IRC which is still our most used platform for development discussions. I am a moderator in some channels but sysrich is a mod in more.

I think it was an oversight, we did talk about it in the meeting. Sorry.

Mods Group Meetings Minutes - 20220209 - 1345 UTC start
Present:
- Bill
- Gertjan
- Maurizio

Minutes by Bill

  • Topics/Actions
  • Discussed how moderators may be appointed
  • Discussed importance of transparency with conflicts involving moderators
  • Crafted a universal list of what constitutes an instant ban
  • Started outline of moderation for "official" vs "non-official" platforms and groups (action item to create better defined framework) and discussed social media management briefly
  • Created internal mod guidelines for decision making
  • Determined what constitutes spamming vs self-promotion, allowing the platform mods to make individual decisions best to their platform community
  • Created escalation framework for mods and mods-team

  • Outstanding topics
    1. Set a reminder 24h prior meeting (Everyone)
    2. Continue documentation of moderation processes (All)
    3. Creation of mods-team@lists.opensuse.org mailing list (Bill to work with heroes)

Future Consideration:

  • We should consider a framework that defines what makes a openSUSE platform official (social media, news, RSS, Reddit groups)

Respectfully submitted,
Bill Schouten

Mods meeting minutes 18.02.22

Present: Bill, Knurpht, Attila

Bots

  • Banned bots on X platform should be banned on other platforms as well,
  • Mods of platform Y should be able to overrule this decision, but requires a discussion with the other mods, and should be decided there,
  • More of an idea: Would we be able to make a bot that can kick users cross-platform?

User History

  • Problematic users who create multiple identities across platform are a reason for concern
    • Moderators can potentially identify these individuals by observing a pattern in their behavior
  • A Pagure project to be utilized to run and maintain a user history which is shared between the different platform moderators

Mods team

  • We need to finalize the Mods documentation
  • Elect people to the moderation team
  • Announce the_mods project_ on the @project mailing list
    • prior to this we should go live on the wiki and link to this document in our announcement e-mail

Action Items

  • Create a list of existing moderators
  • Annual review of moderation policies (in case we or the community wants to change something)
  • Invite Sasi and Richard to our next meeting for feedback and input purposes

Mods meeting minutes 01-04-22

CoC discussion

  • CoC is considered v1.0
  • Considering translations

Moderation discussion

  • Polish telegram group: group is dead, try and contact the admin for potentially taking over the account

Next steps

  • "On-boarding" material preparations for future mods/admins
    • do this prior to recruiting new mods/admins
    • Issue #27 already has some discussions on this

ML mods-team@lists.o.o was created, with Bill, Emily, Mau, Atilla, knurpht, Jens as initial members.
