#100 Update Plasma to 5.27 LTS for Leap 15.5
Closed: Completed 9 months ago by lkocman. Opened a year ago by leinad965.

Next plasma release will be LTS https://community.kde.org/Schedules/Plasma_5 . Current 5.24 has not ideal multimonitor support and 5.26 already improves in that regards:

  • Fixed sometimes black monitor after resume
  • kscreen remembers monitor positions when using Thunderbolt docks
  • Disabling and enabling monitor again restores application on previous position
  • XWayland hidpi support is not anymore blurry
  • Vertically positioned monitors do not overlap with 1px

And there is possibility, that 5.27 could fix "panels position" when using Thunderbolt docks

I am currently using KDE 5.26 repositories on top of Leap 15.4 to fix first three issues on the list, which were very annoying on Plasma 5.24. But that is not ideal state, as it breaks some main repository programs due to library mismatch (for me it is Linphone)

There is one SLE dependency which will be needed to be updated as prerequisity and that is libwayland.

Thanks fo rreporting @leinad965

I expect that this could require quite a lot of changes in SLES 15 SP5, post Beta and this is "ultra-conservative" release, so this is probably not possible resource-wise. Would you be more optimistic @favogt ?

Also happy 100th Feature in code-o-o day!

From a Plasma perspective it might work. We'd need some more updates in SLE though, in particular libdrm and pipewire.

I'll make a feature request on SLE side, let's try to find approvals. Antonio seems to be on the same page with you @favogt

Tracking internally as PED-2635 please make sure to reference jsc#PED-2635 on any changes.

We have a confirmation on SLE side that this feature is doable, with respect to related SLES components, however, any SLES relatest must land prior to the feature cutoff date which is 01/25/2023 15:00 UTC.

Leap specific changes are bit more relaxed when it comes to this particular feature. There this is a big teaser for desktop users and we'll simply do all we can towards having this in 15.5.
