#118 Request for faster adaptation of Packman repos for 15.6
Closed: Completed 7 months ago by lkocman. Opened 9 months ago by non_space.

Saw the post in the Factory list about feature requests for Leap and just yesterday I was discussing the issues on the Forum with the regulars there involved with moving my Leap 15.5 system up to 15.6 due to the slow integration of Packman repos in 15.5 . . . seemed to take a few months after 15.5 was released?? I got into 15.5 "early" and so it was quite awhile without Packman stuff for video . . . .

The request for 15.6 end user types such as myself would be for faster timeline getting Packman available???? Otherwise, overall Leap is a very nice option to have in the openSUSE line up.

Hello, packman repos are 3rd party repo and not part of opensuse leap itself. We can send heads up email etc, but that's basically it.

If you personally want to volutneer and help on packman side then please join packman@links2linux.de

If you'd be interesting in helping us with adding some particular tasks to reach out to the team etc, then simply send PR here https://github.com/openSUSE/openSUSE-release-process

I did already cloned the entire process for 15.6 https://progress.opensuse.org/projects/opensuse-leap-15-6/issues/gantt
but I don't have a problem with backporting / adding few tasks on the go.

Thanks for the reply, the gents on the forum also said, ¨Packman isn´t part of openSUSE". . . I don´t have too much time these days, but I also don´t have any coding education or actual commandline skills . . . Iḿ OK testing stuff out in a hard metal system, not sure if I have the skills that would actually move things forward. Might check into the Packman link you provided??

Same answer on the Leap 15.6 . . . I jumped up from 15.4 to my present 15.5 when it first was ¨pre-alpha¨?? and then found there was no Packman, and it took awhile to get that added in . . . otherwise, no particular issues or complaints about Leap . . . . I could be ¨persuaded" to move my 15.5 to 15.6 via editing the repos, if doing that would be ḧelpful"to the cause . . . . I would have already done so, but then remembered that there was no Packman for a period of months . . . . Then I slowed down on it . . . .

I did message the packman mailing list regarding availability of our first builds in OBS and openQA and shared our roadmap.

I did message the packman mailing list regarding availability of our first builds in OBS and openQA and shared our roadmap.

Thanks for doing that . . . I've been jammed lately and didn't have time to try to figure out how to contact the Packman project on it.

I believe I did do your previous survey, but I'll try to get to this second?? one in a bit. The joy of Leap is OS that doesn't need upgrading of 1457 packages, which one of my TW systems did yesterday . . . not insurmountable, but does take time and electricity . . . every few weeks.

Marking as resolved, I'm already using 15.6 Alpha with packman. I think that nice addition would be to provide a rpm with packman enablement just like NVIDIA. https://github.com/openSUSE/openSUSE-repos/issues/41 Not sure if this is easily possible though.
