I want to already try to package for Leap 16, and have issues with OBS only offering rust1.79, while rust up to 1.81 are available (at least on the SUSE:SLFO:1.1:Build repository, which openSUSE:Leap:16.0 pulls from.
As an example I have https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/X11:COSMIC:Next where a lot of packages can't be built because of the wrong rust version.
I highly recommend to open a bug against Leap, the ownership should be in between Rust maintianers and @mlin7442 for the build configuration.

It's not a bug. Yes there are multiple rust version are available from SLFO, but the default one https://src.opensuse.org/SLFO-pool/rust is set to 1.79, if it is inconvenient to use a specific rust version in the specfile eg. use rust1.81 to instead of rust on Requires/BuildRequires and so on, then we have to request a version update to rust package to SLFO. rust package is a dummy package which pulls a default rust version when use rust of BuildRequires/Requires without a specific version.
@mlin7442 is this going to be always 1.79? or just during development phase and we move later to the way it works for Leap15 (not too sure about SLE15)
I've asked internally let's see what the plan is.
