#98 Minor gtk4 update
Closed: Completed 3 months ago by lkocman. Opened a year ago by alois.

The current version of Celluloid would require only a point update (4.6.0 to 4.6.1), so it shouldn't be too destructive if that's a concern.

Hello Alois,

I can only present this as a late feature. Deadline for early features was on September 9th. See https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Roadmap

We would have a much better chance in case that there would be more packages blocked on the update, otherwise the chances are quite low.

Does this also mean that there will be no Plasma update to 5.24.7?

The current plan seems to be to land this minor update in SP4:Update, therefore SP5 will inherit it as soon as it's released.

The feature is currently pending effort estimation on SUSE side.

We still have 4.6.0 in 15.5 (GA), but that doesn't mean we can't get it in via a maintenance update. I did reach out GNOME team to see what's the situation.

4.6.1 is not as a minor update as one would suppose.
From the changelog:
* GtkFontChooser:
- Stop using PangoFc api
- Use new HarfBuzz api

Those are breaking changes; I think stumbled upon something that stopped working because of that a while ago, but I can't remember.

There's always the fork+soname change or static linking options:)

I do have an update from our GNOME team, the plan is to still release a maintenance update for SP4 and SP5. Blocked on ECO approval.

Comment from Yi Fan: Technically, the gtk was not upgraded because I didn't see the required Wayland update there. I am checking it with Joan (maintaining wayland stack) for the technical part first.

Maintenance update was already released in 15SP4 and 15SP5:
