#14 Up to date cockpit
Closed: Completed a week ago by lkocman. Opened 2 years ago by lkocman.

Web based administration for servers

Needs local-npm, registry and up2date gettext-runtime. Packaging wise the cockpit is already Leap-ready after backporting with_selinux changes from SLE Micro

It should be possible to do it, since CentOS Stream 8 is able to ship the latest versions: https://git.centos.org/rpms/cockpit/commits/c8s

We will probably need to refresh NetworkManager, FirewallD, PackageKit, and other packages that it integrates with.

The systemd package is at 246 in Leap 15.3, so we're fine for 15.4.

Cockpit is already part of ALP / Leap 16.0 and Leap Micro 5.3+

We do have a request for inclusion of cockpit to SLES 15 See PED-3258.

I did ask SLE Micro PM, about some background behind the decision. So let's see.

Oky we have pushed this bit forward.
https://github.com/openSUSE/cockpit/pull/9 and related https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/1093337 enables builds on Leap.

PM would prefer to focus on cockpit development only in ALP, so they do not want to add it to SLES. However they'd be fine with addition to Leap + PackageHUB. For that we need to add local-npm-registry to Leap 15.6 and PM seem to be willing to approve the gettext update in SLES (newly tracked as PED-4713)

Otherwise It already builds in my home project https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:lkocman:branches:systemsmanagement:cockpit/cockpit

AIMing for 15.6 once @Pharaoh_Atem adds the 15.6 version :-)

Seems like we have agreemenet not to have it in SLES, so I'll make availability in 15.6 my personal prio.

I'm done quite some work on fixing the branding (not necessarily issue for Leap) but rather for LeapMicro enablement.'

The only blocker right now is a regression fix for libssh that was in SP4, but is missing in SP6.

My test build
https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:lkocman:branches:openSUSE:Leap:15.6

In order to satisfy cockpit we would add also setroubleshoot to Backports 15.6 to satisfy cockpit-selinux dependencies
https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/1168338

The cockpit-selinux is not really useful on Leap 15.X SLES 15.X as we don't have selinux-policy. But it will allow us to avoid conditional cockpit-selinux package builds etc ...
