backends

Post-13.1 it's possible to install multiple back-ends in parallel (db, sqlite3,
and tokyocabinet).  The separation is based on the update-alternatives(8)
mechanism.

The db backend has the highest priority.  By this we ensure to stay compatible
with former installs.
